JUNIORS FAQs

Where do the Concord Comets play and train?

Our teams train at Majors Bay Reserve in Concord.

Concord Comets teams play in the Ryde Hawks Baseball League which has 12 Clubs located across the Inner West and North West suburbs of Sydney from Lilyfield to Hornsby.

When do the Concord Comets play and train?

Our teams train on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings depending on coach availability.

Most of our teams play on Saturday mornings, while our U12, U14 and U16 Division 1 teams play on Friday evenings – under the lights just like the pros!

The youngest grades are generally allocated the earlier games starting at 8:00am or 8:30am and the last games on Saturdays typically start no later than 11:30am

Game times vary from 45 minutes for our littlest ball players up to two hours for our Division 1 teams and older age groups.

How old does my child need to be to play for the Comets?

We have teams for Junior players from Age 4 up to Age 16

What are the different types of baseball?

Within the RHBL Junior Association we play four main versions of the game:

HawkBall and T-Ball is aimed at players aged 4 to 8 and is played by hitting a ball off
a stand called a tee (hence the name T-Ball). These are the introductory grades of the
sport which will teach kids the basic skills.

Little League Minors Zooka is a machine pitch competition for players aged 8 to 10 which uses a
small automatic pitching machine. This is a bit more challenging than T-Ball and helps kids adjust their batting to a thrown ball, preparing them for live, player-pitch Baseball. This is also where they will really start to develop more game awareness.
Zooka and T-Ball are sometimes referred to as Pre-Live Baseball

Little League Minors Rookie Live is a modified player pitch grade for 10-12 year olds where players start learning to pitch. This grade is designed to develop pitchers’ skills and accuracy without fear of a “walk fest”.

Little League Live Ball Minors and Majors (U12), Intermediate & Junior League (U14), and Senior League (U16) are player pitch competitions for players aged 10-16 years. These Live Ball grades operate generally under the ‘Rules of Baseball’, with varying modifications in each age group to transition players to playing full Baseball rules by Senior League.

Diamond size, pitching distances, and players’ pitching limits are gradually increased through the age groups, with other modifications to the rules adjusted along the way, to assist players in learning the many, and sometimes complex, rules of baseball,

My child has never played baseball before. Can they still play for the Comets?

YES! Our coaches will help your child learn the rules and skills needed to play baseball in a fun, supportive and inclusive environment.
We do try to assess the ability of players at the start of each season to ensure they are placed in a team and competition suited to their skill level but our main focus is on developing our players so that they can play well and enjoy this great game.

Can girls play baseball?

ABSOLUTELY YES! Our teams are mixed and inclusive of all genders from T-Ball all the way through to our adult teams.

Can siblings or friends play in the same team?

We will do our best to accommodate our members’ logistical requirements by keeping siblings and friends together where possible, if their age and ability are similar.

If you would like us to place your child with a friend or sibling, please send an email to [email protected] and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

How much does it cost to play baseball?

Registration costs vary and can change from year to year, but generally range from $150 per season for our youngest age group, up to around $300 per season for our U16’s.

Can I use my Active Kids Voucher?

YES! Concord Comets Baseball Club is a registered Active Kids provider and AKV can be redeemed on the payment page when you register.

Where do I get the uniform to play for the Concord Comets?

The Concord Comets Uniform consists of a training shirt, game shirt, Comets baseball cap, black baseball pants, red baseball belt and socks, and moulded cleat baseball shoes or football boots.

We provide you with a training shirt to keep and a game shirt on loan.

Our baseball caps and optional hoodies can be purchased from the canteen.

Personalised Game jerseys are available for purchase on request via your team.

Baseball pants, belts, socks and cleats can be purchased from baseball retailers locally or on line. We recommend Red Stitches in Thornleigh or Diamond One at Miranda for personal shoppers, or online through Ausport Superstore, Greatrex, RBI, or Fielders Choice.

What gear and equipment do I need to play baseball?

In order to play baseball and stay safe, every player will use a fielding glove, helmet, groin guard (for boys and girls) and bat.

Your child will require their own fielding glove and groin guard. You are welcome to purchase a helmet if you prefer, but we do provide team helmets. Gloves are worn on the opposite hand to your throwing hand (e.g. a right-handed thrower will wear a glove on their left hand). Check out our Glove Buying Guide here.

We also provide team bats for players to use. We do not recommend purchasing a bat if your child is very young and or just new to baseball. As they mature and become committed to the game, your coach will be able to assist and advise you on the correct bat to purchase or you can refer to our Bat Buying Guide here.

For all equipment purchases we advise going to a dedicated baseball retailer to ensure the correct items are purchased for your child’s grade, and to be correctly fitted. We recommend Red Stitches in Thornleigh, Diamond One at Miranda for personal shoppers, or online through Ausport Superstore, Greatrex, RBI, or Fielders Choice

Do you offer Team Photos?

Not only do we offer team photo and player portrait packages, but each of our Junior players can order a set of their very own, personalised, baseball trading cards!

What better way for your child to keep a record of their baseball career… And who knows? One day, when they’re playing in the “Big Leagues”, their cards could be worth a fortune 😉

I’ve registered my child with the Comets, what happens next?

You will receive a welcome email with more detailed information on uniforms, important dates, and pre-season events.

Within a week of registration, your child will be allocated to a team and you will receive a link to join your team’s WhatsApp group. Please join this group as soon as you can so that you don’t miss any important information from your coach or manager.

If you would like us to place your child with a friend or sibling, please send an email to [email protected] and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

I’d like to get involved with the Club, what can I do?

Concord Baseball Club was established by parents in 1995 and is still run by a friendly, inclusive group of parents and volunteers who are always happy to have a helping hand!

With plenty of opportunities for our members to get involved from coaching, managing or scoring for your child’s team, to field maintenance, helping in the canteen or joining our committee, you will be warmly welcomed. You can visit our Getting Involved page for more information.

SENIORS FAQs

What competition do Concord Comets senior teams play in?

We play in the Pacific Coast Baseball League (PCBL). It operates baseball competitions in both the Summer and Winter seasons. The  main Baseball season runs in Summer for around 20 rounds from  September to March, while the Winter  season runs for around 15 rounds between late April/early May to August.

PCBL aims to offer 7 grades of competition ranging from “A grade” for the highly skilled players to “G grade” for beginners or older players looking for a more social game of Baseball.

The club usually enters teams in the Tamworth Invitational Carnival held in Tamworth over the June long weekend

When are senior games played?

Games are typically played on Saturdays but some grades will play a number of Sunday games. Game times are primarily either 1:30pm or 3:45pm in summer or 12:30pm or 2:45pm in Winter, however, from time to time there are some Saturday night games in summer, so you can play under lights just like big leaguers!

How do I know which Grade to join?

The club will help you find the right team to match your skill level and what you want to get out of playing – either serious competition or fun with mates.

Depending on the skill level and numbers of players that register each season, our club aims to enter teams in 3 or 4 grades in the PCBL competition including a high grade, mid level and lower grade.

The club may run trials to help determine the most appropriate grade for new players.

Can I play with my family?

We welcome players that wish to play in the same team as their parents, siblings or other relatives where possible. PCBL allows players from 15-years-old, so it’s a great opportunity for family bonding in a fun environment.

(Please note that while the club will endeavour to keep family members together wherever possible, we must also ensure that players are entered in team at the correct grade as determined by the League).

Do I have to train every week?

Team training is usually optional, the higher grade teams tend to train regularly one night per week while the lower grade teams will train from time to time. Players wishing to train on a more regular basis are always welcome to train with other teams.

When do I need to register for Concord Comets Senior competition?

Registrations for the summer season will open in July for a September season start, while registrations for winter open in March in time for the season to start in late April or early May.

What gear do I need to play baseball?

In order to play baseball and stay safe, every player will use a fielding glove, helmet, groin guard (for men and women) and bat.

To start you will need to get your own fielding glove and groin guard. Gloves are worn on the opposite hand to your throwing hand (e.g. a right-handed thrower will wear a glove on their left hand). Check out our Glove Buying Guide here.

The club will provide each team with a kit bag containing bats and helmets, so you won’t need to buy those, unless you want your own specific gear.

If you do want to buy your own bat, make sure you get the right size and specification bat by referring to our Bat Buying Guide here.

For all equipment purchases we advise going to a dedicated baseball retailer to ensure the correct items are purchased for your grade, and to be correctly fitted. We recommend Red Stitches in Thornleigh or Diamond One in Miranda for in-person shopping, or Ausport Superstore, Greatrex, RBI or Fielders Choice online.

What is the Concord Comets uniform and where do I get it from?

The standard Concord Comets Uniform consists of a white (with black pinstripe) game jersey, black baseball pants, Comets cap, red belt and red socks.

The game jersey and cap are only available for purchase through the club.

Socks and belts can be purchased from any of our recommended baseball retailers including Red Stitches in Thornleigh, Diamond One at Miranda for personal shoppers,  or online through Ausport Superstore, Greatrex, RBI, or Fielders Choice.

You will also be given a training shirt and you can purchase optional items such as hoodies or shorts through our canteen.
