Getting involved

Concord Comets Baseball Club was established by parents and we still rely on them to help us run each season. From coaching to umpiring or even just cooking sausages on the BBQ, we’d love it if you got involved to help us make the club run smoothly for all the kids.

Take a look below for all the ways you can help out and become an integral member of the club!

Umpires

Concord Baseball Club provides and pays umpires for all our Junior games. We encourage all players 12 years and older to take the Baseball Community Umpiring and Umpire Accreditation courses offered by the NSW Baseball Umpires Association to become accredited umpires for Junior games.

This is a great way for players to build their confidence and maturity, improve their own game, AND earn some money, while supporting their Club and mentoring younger players.

Coaching/Managing

Concord Baseball Club is run by volunteers and we encourage our parents to manage and coach our teams.

Each of our teams requires a manager to facilitate communications between the Club and their team, coordinate game day volunteer duties (field set-up, dugout supervision, scoring and pitch counting), and generally wrangle players and parents!

Team Managers are supported by our Managers Coordinator with additional resources available in our Coaches Corner.

Of course, every team needs a coach! This is an essential role from both a development and regulatory point of view. A great coach doesn’t have to be a great baseball player, but rather has the ability to develop and encourage their players and create a positive and fun culture within their team.

The mandatory Baseball NSW Coach Accreditation Courses will give you the tools you need to be a great coach and, of course, the Concord Comets Club Coaches are there to support you every step of the way, with additional resources available in our Coaches Corner. You don’t have to be accredited in order to sign up to coach your child’s team, but we aim to have all coaches accredited by the Summer break each season and will reimburse any applicable course fees.

If your child is playing in a younger, pre-liveball grade such as t-ball or machine pitch (Zooka), and you have a bit of knowledge about the game, coaching can be a great way for you to grow and learn the sport along with your child.

The Baseball NSW Level A  Coaching Accreditation is required to coach at this level. The Level A course will provide you with the tools and resources you need to get started on your coaching journey.

Club level player pitch baseball (Little League Minor up to Seniors), requires a Baseball NSW Level B Coaching Accreditation. Having some experience of playing or coaching baseball, and a Level A Accreditation is a prerequisite of this course which will build on your previous experience and provide a more advanced understanding of the game and training & coaching methodologies, together with training in creating a healthy, supportive and inclusive environment for your players.

Coaches of Division 1 and representative teams are required to have their Level C Accreditation from Baseball NSW. This level of accreditation shows an understanding of game management and strategy that comes with a high level of baseball, and demonstrates a commitment to further coaching education, together with active involvement in the NSW baseball coaching community.

All accreditation courses are assessed and administered by Baseball NSW. Level A courses are free, while Level B and C courses have a fee attached which will be reimbursed by Concord Comets Baseball Club

Scoring

What’s a game without a score?

A fun time, obviously, but mostly we like to have a result, and for that, every game needs a scorer.

We encourage all parents to learn how to score and share that responsibility for their child’s team. Not only is it a great way to learn more about baseball and support your child and their teammates, but it is the absolute best seat at the game!

Our Results Coordinator runs a Basics of Scoring workshop at the beginning of each season which covers scoring the game, completing the required results sheet and how to submit results each week.

Additional resources are available in our Coaches Corner

Canteen

Our thriving and popular canteen offers BBQ sausage, bacon and egg rolls, cold drinks, coffee and sweets, and is run by volunteers every Saturday from 8:00am – 12:30pm

The Canteen successfully contributes to the Club’s ability to minimise, and often forgo, registration fee increases and is an integral part of our community and culture.

Volunteering in the Canteen is a great way to meet other parents and players, as well as quite a few of our committee members who are regular friendly faces at the canteen window.
